Limestone Coast Driving Trips

Choose your own adventure

Gorgeous scenery that changes with every season is your constant companion on the Limestone Coast.

Driving past Woakwine Range Wind Farm, Limestone Coast, South Australia

The Limestone Coast is a highlight of the popular Adelaide to Melbourne drive; one of Australia’s best driving routes. The region’s beaches and friendly rural communities are a comfortable drive from Adelaide.

Scenic drives

Mount Gambier, in south-eastern South Australia is the Limestone Coast’s biggest town. How you get there is up to you, from Adelaide there are two major routes.

The coastal route takes you past the majestic Coorong and the pretty, coastal towns of Kingston, Robe and Beachport. Taste magnificent Wagyu beef at Millicent then follow the Woakwine Range Wind Farm scenic drive past the huge wind-powered turbines that are a sustainable power source for our state.

Go inland through the farming heartland of the Limestone Coast. See classic Australian rural landscapes and then cruise into Naracoorte and their World Heritage Listed caves. Keep driving and you’ll arrive in the famous Coonawarra wine region and historic Penola, the home town of Australia’s first Saint, Mary MacKillop.

There’s a heritage circuit, which includes an Aboriginal burial ground and a plaited tree, both within 40 kilometres of Bordertown on the South Australian-Victorian border.

The Limestone Coast is packed with things to see, plan carefully to see the best of our coastal and inland attractions.

Allow some time to explore Mount Gambier before continuing on to the spectacular Great Ocean Road in Victoria.
