Welcome to the Clare Valley
Be prepared for anything in the Clare Valley. Once you arrive, you may do things you have not done in years.
There are more than 40 wineries and vineyards, plus numerous galleries and museums. There are fantastic restaurants, food and produce markets and sports for everyone.
Visitor Information Centres in Clare, Burra and Kapunda will get you started. Open every day for accommodation, tour bookings, to check emails and buy merchandise, just look for the blue sign with a yellow “i” on it.
Wineries date back to the 1850s. Drop in to sample some of the world’s best Riesling or a palate pleasing Shiraz. Cellar doors are generally open between 10am and 5pm on weekends and most weekdays but it’s best to check before you visit.
Explore by bike
Families won’t struggle for things to do in the Clare Valley. Cycle the Riesling and Rattler Trails and stop to enjoy a picnic lunch.
Take a ride on a miniature railway, lose yourself in a giant maze or check out 50,000 year old giant wombat fossils.
There’s mining history to relive, scenic golf courses to escape to and heritage listed buildings to explore.
Arts and crafts
Enjoy the finest art and crafts at galleries in Clare, Blyth, Watervale and Armagh. Many also sell local produce, such as olive products, jams and preserves.
Spend a leisurely Saturday or Sunday meandering through the market. Held every month, markets around the region sell fresh local food, wine and art.
Celebrate with us
Climb a hill and admire the patchwork of vines and farms that straddle the gullies and carpet the plains. Come in May for the massive Clare Gourmet Weekend. It was Australia’s first and is still the best.
