Fruit Picking

The beautiful Adelaide Hills region is 20 minutes drive from the centre of Adelaide. Located in the Mount Lofty Ranges, 350 metres (1000 feet) above Adelaide, it is a “cool climate” region famous for its Sauvignon Blanc grapevines and fruit orchards.

When fruit is in season (usually from January through to March), collect a basket and get into the beautiful orchards to pick your own fruit. Can you eat the fruit as you pick? Of course you can!

Fresh off the tree…

The region grows excellent apples, stone fruit (plums, apricots and cherries) and berry fruit such as blueberries and strawberries.

Strawberry picking is very popular at Beerenberg Strawberry Farm, a producer of fine jams and preserves located behind the historic town of Hahndorf. In Forest Range you can ask for a map of the Cherry Trail showing all the different growers in the area.

McLaren Vale is about an hour’s drive from Adelaide, and is another region famous for its wine (this time for Shiraz) and fruit. Located on the Fleurieu Peninsula between the Mount Lofty ranges and the coast, it also has some lovely country scenery, with amazing views down to the sea.
